July 25, 2013 Day 48

Sunny - cloudy     75    Home

Last leg of our journey back to Pennsylvania.  You can notice the roadway has changed.  It is filled with tractor trailers.  Fantastic trip - wonderful to see God's work up close and personal and great to spend time with family and friends along the way.  Big red and the camper almost traveled 8,000 miles and Fred's van service went approximately an extra 2,250 miles, but it is great to be home.

July 24, 2013 Day 47

Sunny - partly cloudy     75    Wolfies Campground - Zanesville,Ohio

Heading towards home thru Indiana and Ohio.  Drove thru many small towns - some are depressing with many empty store fronts.  We are good at arriving at big cities at 5 P.M.  Today it was Columbus, Ohio and traffic was stop and go.  The green trees and green grass looks so nice compared to the plains of Wyoming and Nebraska.

July 23, 2013 Day 46

Sunny    88    Crawfordaville KOA - Crawfordsville, Indiana

Boy, did we have a thunderstorm with hail and lightening in the middle of the night.  It rocked the camper - a tree even came down in the campground.   Starting out today, we stopped in Hannibal, Missouri for a Mark Twain Riverboat cruise on the mighty Mississippi River.  We saw Tom Sawyer Island along the way.  The Mississippi River was very muddy.  We saw fish jumping and turtles.  Our next stop was the train museum - hobby shop. Driving thru Illinois today, more corn fields and soybeans with silos.  As we travel Rt. 72,  we think no one has found this road - good road with little traffic.

July 22, 2013 Day 45

Partly sunny - Sunny    90    Mark Twain RV Park - Monroe City, Missouri

After arriving at Double Nickel RV Park last night, Dale and Donna took their first dip into a pool this summer. It was very refreshing  The dip in the pool was worth the price of the campground.  It was the first campground that we ever stayed in that had a bar and an underground storm shelter.  Got off the interstate today and went for more back roads.  Still seeing cornfield after cornfield, crop dusting by plane and silos and some making ethanol.  We traveled through Nebraska and Missouri today.

July 21, 2013 Day 44

Cloudy to sunshine    62- 92    Double Nickel RV Park - Waco, Nebraska

Cheyenne was packed due to frontier days when the old western days are brought to life.  There are people here from all 50 states and many other countries.  It has the world's largest outdoor rodeo.  We thought of staying but in the morning, it looked like rain.  Now we are 10 miles from Nebraska and we finally are seeing some green in the fields, crops especially corn and normal houses.  Now, I know why they are called the corn husker state - miles and miles of corn fields.

July 20,2013 Day 43

Sunny    54 -  90    Restaway Travel Park    Cheyenne,Wyoming

Heading East on Route 80 thru Wyoming today.  Not much to see on the plains - hot, dry, dirty and few antelopes, cows and horses.  I think everyone here lives in a mobile home or RV on a permanent basis.  We did see lots of trains, it seems the West still depends on them.  We had enough for today so we stopped in Cheyenne, Wyoming.  The Restway Travel Park was packed, but they found a small tight corner for us.  Pictures are from day before.

July 19, 2013 Day 42

Sunny    68 - 92    Flaming Gorge KOA    Manila, Utah

Touring around Flaming Gorge National Park today.  It is a very deep gorge ( like the Grand Canyon) but filled with water.  Green Ponderosa Pines with red bark that smell like vanilla on one side of the gorge and the other side is layered with red rock.  We took a scenic back way which is a dirt road with adults and some kids on ATV'S  to Spirit Lake on top of the mountain - gorgeous 10,298'. We also had to stop and wait for the cows to move off of the road.   After a picnic lunch at the Dam, we drove over the Dam and the road is over cliffs on pillars.
